Contents:
Industrial structure data from various dates reclassified to SIC2007 and redistricted to 2011 Local Authority Districts
Approx. number of rows:
7,293
Table type:
Derived
Documentation Author:
Humphrey Southall
Chronology:
The data cover the period 1841 to 2011.
Dates and times are identified by:
   Year

Sources:

  1. This table was generated partly from data from various years held in tables in this 'cen_ind' section, but also from earlier data on occupations.
  2. The areas covered by the table vary by date. It currently provides complete coverage of Britain for 1841, 1931, 1951, 1971, 1991 and 2011, and complete coverage of England and Wales for 1861, 1881 and 1911.

Notes:

  1. The columns of this table are those of 2011 census table WP605EW, Industry by Workplace, whose data is not broken down by gender (so sex = 'A', for all). However, we have added to it data from earlier censuses and for these there are two rows per district, for males and females.
  2. The table includes columns enabling various items of metadata needed by the g_data table to be pre-set here, as the data from different dates will have different sources, acknowledgment requirements, etc.
  3. The data held here are based on place of work for 1951 and 1971, on place of usual residence for 2011 (see above), and on location on census night for 1931 and all earlier dates.

Checking:

  1. Derived data: the scripts used to generate these data have been checked carefully.
