Parish level statistics for England and Wales taken from the 1851 census for the London area.
Approx. number of rows:

Table type:
Raw Data
Documentation Author:
Paula Aucott
Chronology:
The data are for the single year 1851.

Sources:

  1. This is a full transcription of 'Parishes - Area; houses, 1841, 1851; Inhabitants, 1801, 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841, 1851' taken from Census of Great Britain, 1851. Population tables. I. Numbers of the Inhabitants, in the years 1801, 1811, 1821, 1831, 1841, and 1851. Vol. II .
  2. It should be noted that, in its published form, a table is published for each of the census divisions of England and Wales. These tables have been combined here.
  3. The printed table includes extensive notes (see below).

Notes:

  1. The statistical data were input by the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis at the Queen's University of Belfast.
  2. The notes given in the table are extensive and are still being entered and corrected. Initially the notes were keyed at QMW. This process is now being continued at the University of Portsmouth. Notes are currently still missing for Yorkshire, the Northern Counties and Wales.
  3. Until 2008, this version of the 1851 census table was held as 'par_1851_ew_gla_clean', as the original par_1851_ew_gla table was retained for compatibility with the old GBHGIS.
  4. This version of the 1851 census table is considered temporary. It includes only the registration counties closest to London as part of a consultancy covering the GLA area. The script creating this table does ad-hoc temporary changes to enable the two datasets to match within this table. It does not change any of the data permanently. Data in this table is grouped in terms of Registration District and ancient parish.

Checking:

  1. All statistical data were checked by summing fields by county and comparing the result with county printed county summary data.
