Sources:

  1. A full transcription of the 1901 parish level table - Table 12 - Acreage, population, private households and dwellings - Registration County, Districts and Sub-Districts, with their constituent Civil Parishes.

Notes:

  1. These data were input by the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis at Queen's University, Belfast. Extensive additional data cleaning work was undertaken by Humphrey Southall in November 2003.
  2. NB the meaning of one of the types of housing, 'Uninhabited: Not in Occupation', is very unclear, but this is the term used in the original report.

Checking:

  1. CDDA described their error checking as follows: 'All numeric fields have been checked by summing the OCR'd data and comparing the sums with sums provided in the original report. Cross check sums were used on Population Statistics only'.
  2. In 2003, the total populations for 1891 and 1901 were re-checked against the totals for males and females in each year. All inconsistencies have been eliminated.
  3. In 2003, the total 1901 population for each Registration District was compared with the total given in the 1901 Registration District age structure table. All such populations now match, so there are no missing or duplicated rows.
  4. The geographical units have been cross-checked against the GBHGIS administrative unit gazetteer to ensure that all units are correctly identified. Each unit has a unique unit ID assigned to it and this can be used to cross-reference against other data-sets.
