NEWBOURN, a village and a parish in Woodbridge district, Suffolk. The village stands near the river Deben, 3¼ miles S by E of Bealings r. station, and 4¼ S by W of Woodbridge; and has a postal pillar under Wood-bridge. The parish comprises 897 acres. Real property, £1, 245. Pop. in 1851, 221; in 1861, 168. Houses, 38. The decrease of pop. was caused by want of employment, in consequence of lessened demand for coprolites. The property is divided among a few. The manor belongs to Sir RobertRowley, Bart. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £220.* Patron, Sir R.Rowley, Bart. The church is decorated and later English; consists of nave, chancel, and Rowley chapel, with a tower; contains an elaborately carved octagonalancient font; and is in tolerable condition.
