HELLIFIELD, a township in Long Preston parish, W. R. Yorkshire; on the river Ribble, and on the North Midland railway, 5 miles SSE of Settle. It has a station on the railway and a post office under Leeds. Acres, 3, 381. Real property, £3, 619. Pop., 272. Houses, 55. The manor belonged to Helge, the Saxon; passed to the Pereys and the Knolles; and belongs now to James Hammerton, Esq. Hellifield Peel, Mr. Hammerton's seat, was built in the time of Henry VI., and is said to have been originally moated.
