Meare, par. and vil. (ry. sta. Ashcott and Meare), Somerset, on river Brue, 3 miles NW. of Glastonbury, 8269 ac., pop. 1409; P.O.; the manor-house (now a farmhouse), of 14th century, was a frequent residence of the abbots of Glastonbury; the church is mainly of time of Edward II.
