Kirton in Lindsey, or Kirton Lindsey, market town and par., with ry. sta., in NW. of Lincolnshire, on eminence, 6¼ miles SW. of Brigg, 4210 ac., pop. 1851; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Friday. Kirton is an ancient place, and has an endowed grammar school founded in the time of Queen Elizabeth. The weekly market is for corn; there are also important cattle markets and large fairs. Kirton has corn mills, cordage works, brick works, lime kilns, and an iron ore mine.
