Notes—Royal Burghs are such as were originally erected by grant of Charter from the Crown. Parliamentary Burghs, other than those which are also Royal Burghs, were created by the Reform Acts, 1832 and 1868. The Parliamentary Burgh of Portobello, being part of the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh, is not included in this Table. Police Burghs are those incorporated under General, or local, Police Acts, and include certain prior existing burghs of regality or barony which were constituted Police Burghs under the provisions of these Acts.
