Q: What should I do if I find an error on the site?

Previous Item

A: If the error is in the text we have written, for example about the statistical themes or in the core gazetteer (the information about units on the "Relationships and changes" tab), please let us know. Give your reasons, and if we agree with you we will correct the site, although it may take a while for the change to become visible.

However, most of the information in the site comes from historical sources. For example, our descriptions of places come from the late 19th century gazetteers. With these, our aim is to accurately computerise the original material, including any mistakes they made. If you spot any bad computerisation errors, again please let us know. If you disagree with what the historical sources say, well this is one of the reasons why historical research is interesting!
